a structured process

The process as seamless as possible.

In Maine, individuals facing OUI or DUI charges must follow a structured process to regain their driving privileges. We understand the significance of being able to drive in our rural state, and our trained staff is dedicated to evaluating your ability to do so in accordance with DEEP Program Policies.

Alternative Wellness Services (AWS) is a certified Evaluator and Treatment Provider for Maine Drivers Education and Evaluation Program (DEEP). The staff at AWS understand that getting an OUI can be very overwhelming and are here to make the process as seamless as possible.

The DEEP process offers various options:

You can choose to enroll in the Risk Reduction Program, a comprehensive 20-hour educational and screening program available both in-person and virtually. Upon completing a self-assessment in this program, you may either:

  1. Have your license reinstated with no further prerequisites.
  2. You may be required to undergo an evaluation consisting of 2-4 sessions with a certified DEEP provider.

If you acknowledge that you have a treatable issue with alcohol and/or drugs, you have the option to skip the Risk Reduction Program and proceed directly to treatment. To qualify for this path, you must sign a statement verifying:

  1. Recognition of the extent of your alcohol and/or drug abuse problem.
  2. Commitment to abstaining from all non-prescribed substances during treatment.
  3. Commitment to seek ongoing, voluntary participation in treatment, self-help, or both as needed.
